Spooooonnn!!!!

Talked with the boy today. Showed him some of the progress on locmira and we started planning the Geek Cave. Going to put in a nice counter/desktop with tons of room for projects (something about 8' long). Lined out the plans for the robot, and I hoipe we can start that project late this year (it should take about a year to get done).

I should work on locmira some today, but I'm just not feeling it yet. After drafting the Killing Vengeance short story, I have some realigning to do. I know which way I want things to go... I just need to flush out more why's.

So I am trying to figure out how I want to handle the jtz.us Journal. I have a handle on locmira status updates, and cryda doesn't need a journal. So here is the thing, there are a lot of really nifty calls that can be done if the posts are in a database (Topic, date, analytics, sorting). Yesterday I was fighting with myself about whether or not to use rails. I think I have decided that yes, I will use something like rails, but I want to retain ViM as my editor (mostly because I am comfortable and much faster using it for text/code editing.

This means I need to write a ruby script that snags an .erb template, brings it up in ViM with an appropriate name, for example; $ myfoo new "Entry Title". then once the file is saved, dump the data into a dB so that rails can render pages on the fly.

hrm... I never looked to see if ViM has database connecters.. and with a quick websearch, I see that yes, of course it does... that makes things much simpler.

“What Not” is an acceptable answer

I'm still kicking. Many things have happened, mostly good, some great, a bit of bad and a hint of awful (oy! my feet!). The boy is engaged (and living with previously referenced fiancee). The girl is draining money at a moderately alarming rate, I'm just thankful it is an in-state university. SWMBO is still being SWMBO (I am starting to believe she may be an actual force of nature). Me? I think I may be bored. The nest is empty, the laundry is done, and the hours to be idle are revving up. Today, I'm executing a step, and the plan is here.

What is this; and where are the boogers?

I have a few projects going, and I am moving this over to update/report what I am doing with those. Figure I'll also throw in some philiosophy, politics or anything else I can annoy people with. Basically, when my brain tickles, I'm going to try and scratch it here. Just do me a favor and try to ignore the tyops, spelling and grammatical errors that I drop everywhere.

The Current projects going are CryData, Locmira and whatever mini/sbc computer/anduino thingie I can get my idle hands on. Oh, I'm also figuring out Ruby on Rails to make all this web frontend stuff more functional... But damn, it is hard to beat simple php with flat text files for my personal needs.
